I discovered this on the Kindle Boards and did a little research in Google. Sure enough, May 2011 is the inaugural International Chick Lit Month.
I love chick lit, and I’m not ashamed to admit it, even though the genre gets a bum rap. I think, unfortunately, too many people associate chick lit with “light and fluffy.” While it’s true some chick lit tales are a bit lighter than others, this in no way should detract from the essential essence that all good chick lit has: a celebration of us women, warts and all.
One of my favorite books from this genre is Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner. It deals with weight issues, an issue that’s close to my heart. But it goes much deeper than that: it deals with self-esteem and the struggles so many women face while trying to be strong, yet lovable. It’s also laugh-out-loud funny (Weiner has a knack for humor).
